A resource for navigating halal medicines

Who are we?

HalalMed is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to guiding the Muslim community, healthcare professionals and key stake holders on how to navigate the use of medicines in context of a halal diet. We aim to educate and promote transparency about the sources of ingredients and excipients in medicines.

Founded in 2025 by a group of pharmacists, HalalMed was established in response to a growing number of queries and concerns from patients about the compatibility of their medicines with faith-based dietary requirements. As Muslim healthcare professionals, we sought to create a resource in response to this demand-to inform and educate on the suitability of medicines according to patients’ beliefs; enabling person-centred discussions that respect individual values and preferences.

We aim to work collaboratively with other organisations and pharmaceutical manufacturers to ensure that people receive clear and accurate information about their medicines. Through our efforts, we strive to enhance transparency, support informed decision-making, and advocate for a more inclusive approach to healthcare.
